Ponderance Trance Trio
AKA: Ponderance Dub Ensemble
The Ponderance Trance Trio is a performance ensemble which was formed at the joining of two pairs of working partners; Richard Holland and Jason Quinn and Robert Cozzolino and Richard Holland.

Richard J. Holland and Jason Quinn have been working together since 1996 on musical projects to explore genre hybrids of contemporary electronic music. In the Maximalist recording series they borrow strategies from electronic composers such as Stockhausen, Varése, Babbitt, or Nancarrow and combine them with the stylized vocabulary of techno, dub, and jungle to produce pieces which are hauntingly complex yet deceptively accessible.

Robert Cozzolino and Richard Holland are composers who have collaborated since 1993. They regularly record and perform in the equally contemporary albeit more classically oriented Institute for Sonic Ponderance, a diverse and prolific musical organization, founded in January of 1994 in Chicago.

In live performances, The Ponderance Trance Trio combines group improvisation with highly detailed, densely structured prepared tape compositions and hypnotic melodic phrases. The core instrumental elements are live percussion, electronics (including: home made, modified, vintage, and state-of-the-art models) and turntables. Their rich overlay of textures and addictive rhythmic cycles evolve to overwhelm the listener with a bizarre web of sonic nets which unravel as one continuous musical thread.

The Ponderance Trance Trio has performed in Chicago at The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Club of Chicago, the Around the Coyote Gallery, Ten in One Gallery, Ponderance Studios, and for private affairs.
