My solo music is divided into two categories, work that sounds like structured music, and experimental works.
My "music" work grows from the work I did with Jason Quinn with the Ponderance Dub Ensemble and Maximalist, it is very loop based and occasionally sounds like people might actually want to listen to. A new project with Mr. Quinn is in the early phases of putzing.
My experimental work began in the early 90's with the Institute for Sonic Ponderance, In addition to the Institute work and other side project with the Naughty Bishop, archivist and all around ISP co-founder Robert Cozzolino Jr. I have done work with The Charles King Lucite Buttercup, performance artist Gretchen Reimer, Phil Berkman, Kaveh Soofi of Damage TM, Aaron Thieme (Quiet American), Chris Preissing, Jay Kennedy and Press the Button, Claude Wiley of Exterior Mirror, and have done a number of scoring projects for theater and film including, most recently, scoring my own films.
I have also written scored music which I hope to post in .pdf format at some point in the future.
I was tickled pink to be the coiner of the term "Droplift" and participate in the anti-copyright compilation/action piece the Droplift Project. www.droplift.org.
Before moving to Madison I was heavily involved in the experimental music community in Chicago including a steering committee position with the American Composers Forum where I worked with the Chicago Chapter to organize several experimental concerts.
The Institute for Sonic Ponderance is currently reforming after a 4 year slumber to record a new album, details shall follow.
For copies of any of the music you hear on this site please contact me at rholland@ponderance.org.
